How to Claim Insurance for Bike Damage

Your bike is one of your most precious possessions. It’s more than a ride for you – your two-wheeler is a thing of pride for you. However, accidents happen, and bike theft cases are also on the rise. So, it helps to have a general idea about a two wheeler accident insurance claim beforehand.

Keeping that in mind, here is a brief overview on the types of two wheeler insurance claims and the bike insurance claim process.

Types of two wheeler insurance claims

Before you get into the details of claiming two wheeler insurance for bike damages, understand there are two types of claims:

Cashless claims –

In some cases, you can get your bike repaired from a cashless garage in the insurance network. You will not have to pay anything upfront, and the insurer will pay the garage directly.

Reimbursement claims –

If the policy does not mention cashless claims, then you will have to pay for the repairs from your pocket for the moment. You can later claim bike insurance and get reimbursed for the expenses from the insurer.

Bike insurance claim process: How to file your claim

Before you file the insurance claim, you need to know that there are different types of situations for making such claims. First, your bike might have injured someone else or damaged their property. Secondly, your bike might be stolen, or your bike has been in an accident.

But irrespective of the reason for insurance claim, below are a few general steps you need to follow to file a claim-

Here are the steps to note in terms of how to claim insurance for bike:

Step 1: Inform the local police station and file an FIR. You will need the details of your police report when you talk to the insurer.

Step 2: Get in touch with your insurer and inform them about the situation. Make sure you have a copy of your police report with you during this process.

Step 3: If your bike has been damaged, then the insurer will send a surveyor to take a look at the damages and assess the loss that you have incurred. In case the bike is stolen, you need to get a ‘non-traceable’ certificate from the police to submit to the insurer.

Step 4: The surveyor will report back to the insurance company. They will take a look at all the documents you have submitted and check the terms of the policy.

Step 5: If your bike is stolen, then you will get its declared value in your bank account. Otherwise, whether the money is reimbursed to you or paid as a cashless claim depends on the policy guidelines and where you took your bike for the repairs.

Remember that your first step is to inform the police about the incident. You will not be able to file a claim without the police report being a part of the documents that you submit. Also, keep the driving license and the policy document handy.

Documents Required to File a Claim

Apart from following the steps to file a claim, you also need to submit a few necessary documents to get your claim approved. Below are the required documents-
